Haven't posted in a while again, i must apoligize for the lack of new shit. And i missed Ravin' Wednesdays again but hopefully that will be the last one. I promise. Holla.

First off, for all you electronic lovers (most of you have probably already seen it) residentadvisor magazine is a good site to hit up to stay up to date and to keep you hooked up with fresh beats. As well, dj's update their top 10 monthly tracks, you can rank your favorite djs, list events you are going to, etc. By registering and then signing up to the podcast, new sets by different djs are available to download every week. Last week's was by Sebo K and is a great listen if you are into deep/minimal house.

Les Stacks posted a great new Spank Rock song from his fabriclive33 mix album, peep it.

Hot Chip's DJ Kicks album came out on May 21st, and although I have not heard it in its entirity yet, i have liked what I have heard so far. Pick it up here.

Apologies for not posting on wednesday but it's been a hectic week. I saw Crystal Castles last night and i'm not going to lie but this band has been overhyped but not because of lack of talent. Or maybe..i'm not sure what to think. 25 minute set? Come on guys. The crowd was very into the set and it came off as stellar until they ran off stage after only five or six songs. It was just way too short.

Ravin' Wednesdays

The first track this week for Ravin' Wednesdays is taken off of Pryda's RYMD/Armed 12'' and "Armed" is currently the most downloaded track on Beatport. For those who did not know, Pryda is an alias Eric Prydz has taken and these tracks will surely be in heavy rotation soon at a club near you.

Second is a remix by Surkin (you know the French are on fire) of Teki Latex's (of TTC ) Les Matins de Paris that has been played heavily on my itunes as of late.

Lastly, I have an immensely addictive minimal-electro track that's been mixed all over the place and never seems to get old. This track is "Stunt" by Mr. Oizo of Ed Banger fame, and it is off of the Moustache (Half a Scissor) album and you can buy it right here. It's an oldy by electronic music standards (1999) but I felt the need to give him his due after wrongfully crediting him with RATM's Killing in the Name remix.

Finally got around to listening to Dirty South Dance, a mash-up album by Montreal's own A-Trak that can be purchased here. A large portion of the tracks in the album have mainstream rap anthems mixed with electro/dance tracks and I was not sure what to think of it at first. But as I finished listening to the album it was obvious the blend works well and every mix is calculated as each track flows seamlessly to the next while making you move your body around at the same time. An example would be taking Rick Ross's Hustler and mixing it with Simian Mobile Disco's "Hustler", and using this "obvious idea" to create a unique track of his own. Definitely an album to purchase for the party-filled summer all you kids are planning. Here's my two current favorite tracks from it:

p.s. in unrelated news, check out this article on palms out sounds about the ripping of †, the full length by Justice. It's a good read but i will not get into the same argument that people always get into over the leaking of new music.

RJD2 is currently on a tour promoting his new album, The Third Hand, which in my opinion was reviewed way too harshly by the pompous pricks over at Pitchfork....read the review here.

Sure it was nothing like Deadringer, but that was the point of this album: to get away from the hip-hop instrumental style and soulful samples that he was known for and to move onto something different. People are not so down with change I guess but this album shows his ability to play and arrange virtually any instrument. Some say that he sings too much on the new album and that it is too indie-rockish but even if it is not his greatest work, it is still not as bad as some say it is. Not even close.

I witnessed his talent on Monday night as he played a short but sweet set at La Tulipe. The first three are classic RJD2 tracks and the last three are off the new album. You be the judge kids.

I just got around to listening to Amon Tobin's newest album, The Foley Room, and I really enjoyed it. It uses very dark samples and then all of the sudden it will switch back to a soft jazz based harp melody or piano keys. And then it might just explode a few seconds later. Definitely worth checking out if you are into beautifully textured drum n' bass.

The Ed Banger Records Party at Club Soda on the 31st was out of control, I'm still recovering. It was there last destination of their North American Tour and they sure brought the house down.

Instead of playing seperate sets, Busy P, DJ Mehdi, Justice, SebastiAn, and So Me, simply seemed to take turns and their relaxed attitude made the show even more party-like.

When "We are Your Friends" came on, everybody in the front rows jumped on stage and danced around Gaspard and Xavier. Definitely the best show I've been to this year so far.Here's what the thecobrasnake managed to shoot that night.

The French electro scene is bumping great music these days, and i came across this jem, "Les Loukoums" by DJ Mehdi of Ed Banger fame. It is a 39 minute jam going from great hook to the next, all done in a fashion to honor J.Dilla...R.I.P.

In more Ed Banger news, Justice, DJ Mehdi, Busy P and SebastiAn are on an North American tour, and they hit Montreal (my hood)on the 31st at Club Soda...it will be dope. I'll post photos from it when it happens.

So apart from my ridiculous obsession with the concept of jedi chillin', I also enjoy music. "Big fuckin' suprise you unoriginal asshole" you might say.

Ed Banger just released their new compilation album, Ed Banger Vol. 2 , and I thought it was pretty enjoyable. So in honor of all you broke-as-fuck hipsters who skip lunch and maybe even dinner to buy more vinyl and cigs, here it is. Sure it's not on vinyl right in front of you, but think of this as a preview until it is physically in your hands, or spinning on your turntables at a sweaty house party.

What is a "Jedi Chiller"?

Yoda, who is considered to be at the ultimate level of jedi chilling.

Since this is my first post, i might as well define what exactly a "jedi chiller" is, since my blog is named after it.
It came upon my friend and I friend after a THC influenced instant message discussion about people who chill, hangout,party, socialize,do anything that consists of wasting time and not being constructive, etc. There are a lot of "chillers" persay, i'd say among North American teenagers this is a high percentage but how many jedi chillers are out there?

I would say only a small decimal of people have achieved this glorified status as they have managed to put chilling before everything else in life, and somehow still get away it. Kids who move from couch to couch, or even floor to floor as long as they can get away with living while not having to have a job, go to school or do anything productive. Do not get confused though, homeless people are not jedi chillers. Because jedi chillers are so cunning, devious and witty they always manage to find a place to stay (parent's place does not count here folks) because of their entertainment value and they obviously value their comfort level. A true jedi chiller has taken his/her laziness and chilling factor to such an immense level that it rubs off on everybody they meet and even though these qualities are seemingly negative, people are mesmorized by them. So much so, that people will start buying jedi chillers things and take care of them without asking any questions. This is because they live off their true skill of chilling, nothing more nothing less.

I think i have probably one witnessed one or two jedi chillers in my not-so-long lifetime, but the real question remains: are you a jedi chiller?
